Gabri de Hoogd

Gabri de Hoogd (1960) – Co-founder of James Martin & Associates Advocaten (``JMA``) in Aruba and Curaçao graduated in 1983 from the Faculty of Law of the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, specialising in private law. For the next two years De Hoogd worked as a legal adviser for a medium-sized debt collections agency in Leeuwarden (Friesland) and in October 1985 he was sworn in as a lawyer in the Netherlands.
As corporate attorney throughout 40 years De Hoogd has gained expertise in the following areas:
- worldwide (no cure no pay) debt collections,
- conducting judicial civil procedures and arbitrations;
- commercial and bankruptcy law,
- restructuring and restarting companies,
- inheritances,
- estate planning and divorce,
- conflict resolution between shareholders and corporations.
Besides his work in The Netherlands, De Hoogd also gained experience as an attorney in Russia, where he was directly and successfully involved from 1 July 1997 until 1 April 1998 in the settling of contracts between the Russian Government and clients from Europe as well as America (which also included financial corporations). Specifically settling outstanding delinquent accounts on former Soviet Union state-owned enterprises.
2007
De Hoogd has been admitted to the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.
2009 t/m present
As of 2009 De Hoogd combines his role as a debt collections attorney with the position of non-executive director of investment company Universal Mergers & Acquisitions Inc. in Middleton, Massachusetts, USA. De Hoogd frequently travels between Europe, the Dutch West Indies and the United States to perform his duties optimally.
2011 until 2020
From March 2011 until March 2020, De Hoogd was, in addition to his legal profession, also a board member of the timeshare resort Caribbean Palm Village Resort in Aruba, from December 17, 2017 as vice-president and from November 20, 2019 to March 2020 as president.
July 16, 2018
On July 16, 2018 de Hoogd was appointed a member of supervisory board at the public limited power distribution company Elmar N.V. which consists of 5 members. The revenue in 2019 amounted to 195 million Euro with a profit of 6.5 million Euro before deduction of corporate tax.
